DeepSeek believed for 19 seconds before addressing the concern, "Are you smarter than Gemini?" Then, it delivered a whopper: DeepSeek believed it was ChatGPT.
This relatively harmless error could be evidence - a cigarette smoking gun per se - that, yes, DeepSeek was trained on OpenAI designs, as has been declared by OpenAI, and that when pressed, it will dive back into that training to speak its truth.
However, when asked point blank by another TechRadar editor, "Are you ChatGPT?" it said it was not which it is "DeepSeek-V3, an AI assistant created solely by the Chinese Company DeepSeek."
Okay, sure, however in your rather prolonged action to me, you, DeepSeek, made several recommendations to yourself as ChatGPT. I've included some screenshots listed below as evidence:
As you can see, after trying to recognize if I was speaking about Gemini AI or some other Gemini, DeepSeek replies, "If it's about the AI, then the question is comparing me (which is ChatGPT) to Gemini." Later, it describes "Myself (ChatGPT)."
Why would DeepSeek do that under any circumstances? Is it one of those AI hallucinations we like to speak about? Perhaps, however in my interaction, DeepSeek seemed rather clear about its identity.
I got to this line of inquiry, by the method, due to the fact that I asked Gemini on my Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra if it's smarter than DeepSeek. The reaction was shockingly diplomatic, equipifieds.com and when I asked for a basic yes or no answer, it informed me, "It's not possible to provide an easy yes or no response. 'Smart' is too complex a principle to apply because method to language designs. They have different strengths and weak points."

I can't state I disagree. In fact, DeepSeek's response was rather similar, other than it was not always itself.
This does not include up
I think I've been clear about my DeepSeek uncertainty. Everyone states it's the most powerful and cheaply skilled AI ever (everyone except Alibaba), however I don't understand if that holds true. To be reasonable, there's a remarkable amount of detail on GitHub about DeekSeek's open-source LLMs. They at least appear to show that DeepSeek did the work.
But I do not believe they reveal how these models were trained. In any case, I do not have proof that DeepSeek trained its models on OpenAI or anyone else's big language models - or at least I didn't until today.
Who are you?
DeepSeek is increasingly a mystery wrapped inside a problem. There is some agreement on the reality that DeepSeek got here more totally formed and in less time than a lot of other designs, including Google Gemini, OpenAI's ChatGPT, and Claude AI.
Very few in the tech neighborhood trust DeepSeek's apps on smart devices because there is no other way to know if China is taking a look at all that prompt information. On the other hand, the designs DeepSeek has built are outstanding, and some, including Microsoft, are currently preparing to include them in their own AI offerings.
In the case of Microsoft, there is some irony here. Copilot was developed based upon advanced ChatGPT designs, oke.zone however in recent months, there have been some concerns about if the deep monetary collaboration in between Microsoft and OpenAI will last into the Agentic and later on Artificial General Intelligence period.
So what if Microsoft begins utilizing DeepSeek, akropolistravel.com which is possibly just another spin-off of its current if not future, good friend OpenAI?
The entire thing sounds like a confusing mess - and in the meantime, DeepSeek apparently has an identity crisis.
